Loch Kinord, paddle

SC 352866

Description Loch Kinord, paddle

Date c. 1996

Catalogue Number SC 352866

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of DC 36096 PO

Scope and Content Paddle from 'lake-dwelling' or possibly a crannog at Loch Kinord, Deeside, Aberdeenshire The logboat (otherwise known as a 'dugout' or 'canoe') is a simple and 'primitive' boat, but this does not imply that it is necessarily early, most examples recovered being medieval or later in date. This incomplete paddle is in Aberdeen University Anthropological Museum. Its function is unclear, but its unusual form may suggest that it was used for some purpose other than navigation.
