Scope and Content Logboat from Castle Loch at Closeburn, Nithsdale, Dumfries and Galloway The logboat (otherwise known as a 'dugout' or 'canoe') is a simple and 'primitive' boat, but this does not imply that it is necessarily early, most examples recovered being medieval or later in date. This logboat was discovered in 1859 during drainage works; its twisted remains are now in the National Museum of Scotland. It is a typical small and irregularly-worked Scottish logboat with a fitted-transom stern. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
