Scope and Content Logboat from Loch Doon (no. 3), Straiton, East Ayrshire The logboat (otherwise known as a 'dugout' or 'canoe') is a simple and 'primitive' boat, but this does not imply that it is necessarily early, most examples recovered being medieval or later in date. This large logboat is one of three found in 'nearly a vertical position' near the medieval castle in 1831. It is dissimilar-ended with a fitted transom and is now in the Hunterian Museum, University of Glasgow. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
