Scope and Content Detail of maker's plate of millstone on first floor of High Mill near Carluke, Lanarkshire High Mill, a typical windmill-tower with attached buildings, was built as a grain-mill in 1797. It was converted to steam-power in the middle of the 19th-century and later made use of a gas-engine. Nothing survives of the rotating cap or the sails. The millstone's maker's plate reads: J SMITH & SON/ MILL STONE BUILDERS./ EDINBURGH. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
