Scope and Content View from south-west showing school at Ferguslie Thread Works, Paisley, Renfrewshire Ferguslie Thread Works was founded in 1826 by James Coats, and the complex of buildings was built between 1826 and 1858. The complex consisted of three mills with engine houses, gatehouse and a part-time school to educate the workers' children. Designed by Woodhouse & Morley, the school was built in 1887. This ornate building is single-storeyed with a basement, and built of brick with stone dressings to the windows, doors and quoins (corners of the building). The main spinning mill was demolished in 1992, but the school building still survives. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
