Scope and Content Duchary Rock, fort, Highland This fort sits upon a long and narrow flat topped ridge with precipices to the W and E and commands an excellent view of the surrounding landscape. Massive dry-stone walls like these protected the north and south approaches to the fort where the cliffs give way to steep slopes. On the NW slope the walls are nearly 5m thick, but stone robbing has caused the collapse of the ramparts in many places. Whilst appearing impressive, many hillforts probably were constructed as displays of prestige and power by tribal leaders. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
