Scope and Content Fort at Mumrills, Falkirk This Roman fort is at Mumrills. Built on a high plateau, it had several phases of occupation. It may have been destroyed and rebuilt twice before it was finally abandoned. There is an annexe to the W and the Antonine Wall to the N This is a plan of the fort with the annexe to the W. The fort is rectangular-shaped, with rounded corners to the S, but square corners to the N, where the defences abut the Antonine Wall. The annexe was enclosed by a series of ditches The site was excavated in 1923-8 by Macdonald, and again in 1958-60 with an emergency excavation conducted by the RCAHMS. The fort may have been occupied by a cavalry regiment, the Ala I Tungrorum, and the infantry regiment, the Cohors II Thracum Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
