Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Camster, Caithness, Highland There are two chambered cairns at Camster, a long cairn and this round cairn. They are two of the best preserved cairns in Scotland. They stand on open moorland close to the roadside. This is a view of Camster round cairn. The cairn material has collapsed slightly, covering the drystone kerbing that runs around the circumference. The entrance passage leads to a chamber that still has its original corbelled roof. The cairn was excavated in the 19th century. The remains of several skeletons were recovered from the chamber and the passage. Finds included burnt bone, flint tools and pot sherds. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
