Scope and Content Fort and temporary camp at Balmuildy, East Dunbartonshire This Roman fort is at Balmuildy. It was built where the Military Way crossed over the River Kelvin. The fort was probably built in advance of the Antonine Wall, which runs in front of N rampart. There is a temporary camp on higher ground NE of the fort. This is a plan of the site showing the layout of the fort. The central building is the headquarters, with a granary on either side. On the right side is the commandant's house. On the left side are two workshops. In the NE corner was a bath-house. A number of inscribed and sculptured stones have been found in or near the fort. Two state that the fort was built by the Second Legion Augusta, under the command of Quintus Lollius Urbicus. These are now in the Hunterian Museum, University of Glasgow.
