Description Part survey - reconstruction drawing

Catalogue Number SC 346870

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of DC 10608

Scope and Content Plans of upper horizontal mill at Huxter, Mainland, Shetland The three horizontal mills stand along the burn that empties from the Loch of Huxter. Two are now shells, but a third is still thatched. Together, they hold enough original machinery to make a reconstruction possible. Water flowed in through the water-chute (a) to turn the waterwheel (m) and so drive the millstones (m). The tentering apparatus (l) controlled the position of the wheel.
