Scope and Content Reconstruction of musicians' gallery inside the school at New Lanark, Lanarkshire New Lanark was founded in 1785 by David Dale and Richard Arkwright. It passed to Dale's son-in-law, Robert Owen, in 1799. Owen developed the village into a model community, aiming to make it both profitable and humane. This musicians' gallery shows that Owen intended the children to receive a full education that included the 'Arts', rather than just a basic education designed to make them into good workers.
