Scope and Content Reconstruction of principal working parts of whin-mill at Quittlehead, Lumphanan, Grampian The whin-mill at Quittlehead is a good example of a what was once a common piece of farm equipment especially in the north-east of Scotland. It was used to crush whins, a kind of gorse bush, for cattle fodder. This is how the working parts of the whin-mill would have looked. The crushing stone was slightly conical so that it would turn in a circle. Only the stone and the four-legged pivot and plate survive. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
