Scope and Content Drawing of whin-mill at Quittlehead, Lumphanan, Grampian The whin-mill at Quittlehead is a good example of a what was once a common piece of farm equipment especially in the north-east of Scotland. It was used to crush whins, a kind of gorse bush, for cattle fodder. The horse walked around in circles, rolling the crushing stone over the whins piled in the channel or 'trough'.
