Scope and Content Settlement at Skara Brae, Orkney The settlement at Skara Brae was discovered in 1850 when a storm destroyed part of the sand-dune which covered it. The village would originally have stood inland, but coastal erosion now means it is on the shore. It consists of houses and a workshop. This is a view of one of the limpet boxes in house 7. It is though that these may have been used for storing bait in for fishing. s Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
