Scope and Content Site plan of Keiss Harbour, Caithness Keiss Harbour is well-preserved example of the several small 19th-century fishing-stations on the eastern coast of Caithness. Though Keiss Bay was approved for use as a haven in 1790 by Thomas Telford, the harbour was not built until 1820. The harbour consists of a inner basin, an outer basin with a slipway for launching fishing boats, a ware-house and an ice-house. The cliff-top roadway leads to a row of dwellings, a salmon-bothy with its own yard and store, in use until 1940. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
