Scope and Content Elevation of warehouse at Keiss Harbour, Caithness The warehouse is part of Keiss Harbour, a well-preserved example of the several small 19th-century fishing-stations on the eastern coast of Caithness. The ground-floor doors each lead to a barrel-vaulted cellar used for storing the salt for the herring-curing process. The steps lead around the back to the main first-floor entrance. Goods were hauled up into the first-floor loading-doors at the front. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
