Scope and Content Plans, sections and elevations of Houldsworth's Cotton Mill in City of Glasgow Houldsworth's Cotton Mill was built in 1804-5 and is important because it was one of the first mills to built with fire safety in mind. The fireproof north range was built entirely from brick and iron but the later south range (on the left) was built with conventional wooden floors resting on iron columns.
