Scope and Content Plan and reconstructed elevation Spinningdale Mill, Sutherland Spinningdale Mill was built on the shore of the Dornoch Firth in 1792-4. It was meant to provide much-needed employment for the highlands, but was accidentally burnt down in 1806. The architect designed the mill to be attractive to look at. Inside, it contained spinning-jennies, driven by the steam engine in the engine-house on the left. The small round tower on the right was either a latrine or a heating-tower. The architect, James Boog, was responsible for the design of some Highland churches. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
