One story is that the stone commemorate a major battle against Norse settlers from Orkney. Found buried in 1726, the stone is now covered by a glass case. This is a view of the first of four panels. It shows foot soldiers and horsemen. This represents a leader, his guard and his army arriving to do battle. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
