Scope and Content Henge monument, Cairn and Stone Circle in the grounds of Moncreiffe House, Perth and Kinross Excavation of this site revealed a complex history. It began as a small henge defined by a penannular ditch, but the ditch was later backfilled and a circle of eight standing stones was then erected. The stones were graded in height. This stone lay at the centre of the stone circle. Eighteen simple cupmarks are visible on its upper surface. A plan drawn over a hundred years ago shows the stone lying outside the circle. It is not known when it may have been moved. This site originally stood on the N side of the W drive to Moncreiffe House and was surrounded by open agricultural land. It was excavated in 1974, when it was threatened by roadworks. Subsequently, the stones were re-erected at a new site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
