Scope and Content Henge monument, Cairn and Stone Circle in the grounds of Moncreiffe House, Perth and Kinross This site began as a small henge. It was defined by a penannular ditch and had a broad entrance causeway facing northwards. Excavation uncovered a circle of nine pits in the interior, while a cremation was found just outside the entrance. This is a view of the henge after excavation. The circle of pits can be seen together with other features in the interior. The rounded terminals of the ditch lie at the top of the photograph. Sherds of decorated Beaker came from the fill of the ditch. This site originally stood on the N side of the W drive to Moncreiffe House and was surrounded by open agricultural land. It was excavated in 1974, when it was threatened by roadworks. Subsequently, the stones were re-erected at a new site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
