Scope and Content Possible henge monument at Overhowden, Berwickshire, Scottish Borders The trial excavations of this enclosure revealed the circuit of a broad ditch and its surrounding bank. An entrance was located on the NW. The morphology of the enclosure led to an interpretation as a henge. The ditch of the henge can be seen as a cropmark on this aerial photograph. The entrance is clearly visible in the top right corner. Although there appears to be another break in the ditch on the SE, this has been caused by plough damage. This possible henge is barely visible on the ground. It lies in the corner of an arable field on a gently sloping hillside. It was excavated in 1950. Numerous flint implements, including arrow-heads and scrapers, have been found on the adjacent farmland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
