Scope and Content General office at Glenlivet Distillery, Banffshire Glenlivet was founded in 1824 by George Smith. It was the first legal distillery in the Highlands. Because of this, Smith was under constant threat from local smugglers for several years. This is the general office at the distillery. It is typical of accounts offices of this time. The desks and stools are quite high. The accounts in this office would have been handwritten. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
