Scope and Content Threshing machinery driven by horse-gang at Conisby, Islay, Argyll and Bute This horse-powered threshing machine was one of two serving the township of Conisby, and is typical of those at may small farms throughout Scotland. Before the machinery was installed in 1910, the threshing was performed by hand. The grain, still on the stalks, was fed through the roller into the left-hand drum where whirling flails broke it up. A fan in the right-hand drum blew the lighter stalks out of the side, while the heavier grain dropped down into sacks. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
