Scope and Content Horse-frame inside smithy at Machrimore, Strathclyde The smithy at Machrimore was built as part of the estate and was in use until the late 1960s. The horse-frame or 'horse-trave' in the shoeing shop was used on difficult horses while they were being shod. The horse stands inside the frame with ropes holding one hoof in a position where it is easy to work on. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
