Scope and Content Horse-gang and threshing machinery at Conisby, Islay, Argyll and Bute This horse-powered threshing machine was one of two examples serving the township of Conisby, and is typical of those at may small farms throughout Scotland. Before the machinery was installed in 1910, the threshing was performed by hand. This is an open horse-gang because the mechanism is in the open-air. The horse walks in circles, turning the wheel which is connected to an underground drive-shaft. This powers the threshing machinery in the barn. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
