Scope and Content Symbol stone at Birnie, Morayshire This symbol stone is at Birnie Church, near Elgin. It now stands in the churchyard, next to the W wall. The stone was originally found built into the churchyard's wall. This is a drawing of the stone which appeared in John Stuart's 1856 publication 'The Sculptured Stones of Scotland'. The symbols are carved on the N face. They are an eagle and a divided rectangle and Z-rod. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
