Scope and Content Symbol stone at Mortlach, Morayshire This stone stands in the middle of the lower churchyard in Kirktown of Mortlach. It is a natural pillar of stone with carvings on both faces. This is a drawing of the stone which appeared in John Stuart's 1856 publication 'The Sculptured Stones of Scotland'. It shows the SW face. On it are the remains of a bird, possibly an eagle, a serpent and a bull's head. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
