Scope and Content Reconstruction of Peterhead Town-house (pre 1859), Aberdeenshire Peterhead Town-house was built on the site of a 17th-century tolbooth, itself a replacement for an earlier building near the harbour which was abandoned after use as a plague hospital in the 1640s. Though the pediment has a 1788 date-stone, the interior was not completed until about 1813. The original forestair was in disrepair by 1843, rebuilt as a double flight in 1859 and replaced by the present enclosed stair in 1881. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
