Scope and Content Reconstruction of Nairn Town and County Buildings (pre 1868), Highland Nairn Town and County Buildings replaced an earlier tolbooth which was itself a replacement for one accidentally burnt by soldiers in 1716. The construction cost was shared between the burgh and the county. Originally the steeple had a simple crenellated parapet and octagonal spire. These were replaced by an elaborate parapet and spire in 1868-70. The bell was cast in 1843 by Thomas Mears, replacing two smaller bells dated 1699 and 1769. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
