Scope and Content Fort at Tynron Doon, Dumfries and Galloway Tynron Doon is on the summit of a steep-sided spur of Auchengibbert Hill. The site has had many phases of occupation right up to a 16th century tower-house. Finds from the area, including part of a gold bracteate panel, are in Nithsdale Museum. This is an aerial view of the fort. Most of the defences are on the W and SW slopes, with a series of ramparts and ditches. The summit is oval in plan and is enclosed in a stone wall. A section of a stone parapet is to the NE. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
