Scope and Content Fort at Blackhill, Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire Blackhill fort is built on an elevated spur but is overlooked by higher ground. There has been more than one period of occupation at the fort. Inside is a modern sheepfold. There is a small barrow and a cairn nearby which appear to be contemporary. This is the plan of the fort. The earlier defences consisted of a single-rampart with an outer ditch. The second phase saw the building of a walled enclosure within the rampart, which was strengthened at the same time.
