Scope and Content Fort known as Cow Castle, South Lanarkshire Cow Castle is built near the gorge of Culter Water. It is one of the best preserved sites in the area. The earliest defences consisted of two ramparts and ditches with quarry to the S provided the building material. The later defences were built inside the existing ones. Three hut circles are also shown inside. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
