Scope and Content Inscription on burgh bell inside Kirkcudbright Tolbooth, Dumfries and Galloway Kirkcudbright Tolbooth was paid for by local landowners and from fines. Sir John Gordon of Lochinvar also loaned £2000 to be repaid from council rents and selling booths in the new tolbooth. It was replaced in 1788 because it was too small. One bell survives in the steeple. It is inscribed SOLI DEO GLORIA MICHAEL BURGERHUYS ANNO 1646. Another bell is displayed in the building. It replaced one damaged in the 1723 fire and is inscribed QUIRIN DE VISSER ME FECIT 1724 KIRKCUDBRIGHT. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
