Scope and Content Cross-slab known as the Maiden Stone at Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeenshire The Maiden Stone stands by the roadside at Chapel of Garrioch. Local legend says that it was named after the daughter of the laird of Balquhain who died during her elopement. The W face is carved with an elaborate ring-headed cross. Above are carved two fish monsters surrounding a man with outstretched arms. Below is a large roundel with spiral work, interlace and key-pattern. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
