Scope and Content Fort known as White Caterthun, Angus The two hillforts known as Brown Caterthun and White Caterthun are fine examples of the skills prehistoric man possessed in building and engineering. A large workforce must have been needed to provide the timber and quarry stone for the forts. The fort consists of two walls. The inner one is up to 12 m thick and 3 m high. The outer wall is 6 m thick. At the W end are the remains of a 3 m deep rock-cut cistern. Outside are further lines defence. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
