Scope and Content Henge monument at Balfarg, Glenrothes, Fife The henge at Balfarg, along with the stone circle at Balbirnie, form one of the most important groups of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in E Scotland. The site has had both a timber and a stone circle inside. It was also used for a Beaker burial. This is a view of the henge monument. The area is enclosed by a ditch, 60 m in diameter. There is a natural gully to the SW. Inside the ditch was a setting of timber posts, now marked by shorter posts. The entrance was on the W side. The site was excavated prior to a housing estate being built, though the development was re-planned to allow the henge to remain. A burial in a pit contained the remains of a young person along with a handled Beaker and a flint knife. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
