Scope and Content Broch at Midhowe, Rousay, Orkney The Broch of Midhowe on Rousay is built on a small promontory. The outer defences are confined to the landward side. A sea wall was built during the 1930s to put an end to the erosion which had destroyed part of the W side of the site. This is a view of some of the furniture found on the site. It is all made from slabs of stone. Items such as beds, cupboards and dressers were made this way. Stone was used as wood is very scarce on the island. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
