Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Wideford Hill, Orkney This chambered cairn at Wideford Hill overlooks the Bay of Firth. The floor of the chamber is dug back into the hill side. The original entrance is downslope, though not now used. The site was excavated in the 19th century. This is a view of the outside of the cairn. The main chamber inside is dug back into the hillside. The entrance faces downslope. Excavations in the 19th century found the cells to be empty, though the main chamber had been deliberately filled in with rubble. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
