Scope and Content Prison Block of Stirling Town-house, Stirling Stirling Town-house replaced a medieval tolbooth on the same site. Funding came from the Malt Tax. 'Hyeland oak trees' were used for the spire, and 'Fyne French glass' was ordered for the windows. The roof required repeated repairs. The prison-block was built in 1808-11 to house a court and jail. By 1836 six cells were too damp and the remaining ten had rotten masonry. A new prison was built elsewhere in 1848 and the prison block became a county court and a police station.
