Scope and Content Inscription on Kinross Town and County House, Perthshire and Kinross Kinross Town and County House probably originated in the 17th century, but was completely remodelled in 1771. It housed the county council and, from 1814, the 'steeple committee' which ran the town. It was replaced by a new building in 1826. The inscription reads: THIS COUNTY HOUSE WAS REPAIRED BY THE CROWN 1771 ROBERT ADAM OF THIS SHIRE DECORATED THIS FRONT AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. However, the 1771 work seems to have been a complete remodelling. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
