Scope and Content Early 19th century view of Dumfries Town-house, Dumfries and Galloway ('Midsteeple') Dumfries Town-house was built to provide much-needed office and prison space. Outcry over the burgh council's mishandling of the funds led to a committee of council and community overseeing the work. The resulting minute book survives. This is what the town-house looked like shortly after 1830 when the portico was added and the first floor became the council-house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
