Scope and Content Court-room inside Montrose Town-house, Angus Montrose Town-house was built after a local committee offered to pay for a new assembly room. It replaced a medieval tolbooth which continued to be used as a prison until it was demolished in 1837. Original features can still be seen on the first floor. The court-room's panelled ceiling, door and window architraves survive. There is an 18th century chimneypiece on the west wall of the town hall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
