Scope and Content Cross-slab known as Clach a'Charridh at Shandwick, Ross and Cromarty, Highland This splendid cross-slab still stands in its original position on a hill overlooking the fishing village of Shandwick. Later legend says the stone marks the grave of a Norse Prince. In 1846 it was blown down and broken. It is now covered by a glass case. The east face has five panels carved in low relief. These depict a double-disc and spiral; a Pictish beast with tiny animals below; a group including men on horseback hunting a stag; and a circular composition of spirals. The lowest panel is worn away. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
