Scope and Content Dun at Torr a'Chaisteil, Arran, North Ayrshire The dun at Torr a'Chaisteil is built on top of a small knoll which provided some form of natural defence and allows the dun to look out over farmland. It is laid out more or less as a circle, although very little of the structure still remains. This is a view of the dun. The walls may have originally stood to over 2 m high. The entrance to the E was protected by an outer bank, crossing the knoll from N to S. The site has been excavated at least three times, but little structural information was discovered. Finds included part of a rotary quern and animal bones. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
