Scope and Content Stone circle at Moss Farm, Machrie, Arran, North Ayrshire The area about the abandoned steading at Moss Farm contains one of the most impressive concentrations of prehistoric monuments anywhere in Scotland. This includes chambered cairns, stone circles, standing stones hut circles and field systems. This is a view of the stone circle. Originally nine stones formed this circle but now only four remain. Three of these are now stumps that only just break the surface of the ground. The site was excavated in 1861 when two cists were found. One of these contained a crouched inhumation with two flint flakes. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
