Scope and Content Stone circle at Balbirnie, Kirkcaldy, Fife The stone circle at Balbirnie, along with the henge at Balfarg, form one of the most important groups of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in E Scotland. The site has had three phases of activity. It was rebuilt 125 m SE of its original location. This is a view of one of the four cists inside the circle. The W slab is decorated with cup-marks and cup-and-ring marks. A cast of this forms part of the reconstructed cist. When the site was excavated in advance of road building in 1970 and 71 this cairn had already been disturbed. The original slab is now in the RMS in Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
