Scope and Content Souterrain at Crichton, Midlothian This souterrain is at Crichton. A short entrance passage leads below ground to the main gallery. The builders made use of several Roman stones which probably came from a nearby fort. The site of this fort has still to be found. This is a view of one of over 70 Roman stones that have been reused in construction of the souterrain. All have been squared and are recognised by characteristic diagonal chiselling. Two are by the entrance though most are along the top of a wall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
