Scope and Content Blocked pistol-loop in Kirkcudbright Tolbooth, Dumfries and Galloway Kirkcudbright Tolbooth was paid for by local landowners and from fines. Sir John Gordon of Lochinvar also loaned £2000 to be repaid from council rents and selling booths in the new tolbooth. It was replaced in 1788 because it was too small. Two original pistol-loops, now blocked, survive on the top floor. At some time the top floor was converted into a debtors' prison and the other pistol-loops were widened to make narrow windows.
