Scope and Content Stranraer Town-house, Dumfries and Galloway Stranraer Town-house replaced a ruinous tolbooth on the same site. Lack of funds prevented the rebuilding of the next-door church. Instead an extra 'four or five foots' were added to The town-house steeple. A new town-hall replaced the town-house in 1874. The plaque on the clock-stage of the steeple is dated 1936 and commemorates the donor of the present clock. The block at the rear was a corn exchange and court-room. It was built in 1855, replacing an 1802 market-house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
